Some of you may ultimately own or manage a small manufacturing company. Suppose you manage Logan Company, which manufactures bird houses in four departments. The first department is Sawing. It is responsible for cutting the pieces of lumber to be used to manufacture the houses. The second department is Construction. In the Construction department the houses are nailed together; no other materials are added in the Construction department. The third department is Painting. In the Painting department, each house receives a primer and then two coats of weather-resistant paint. The fourth and last department is Finishing. Workers in the Finishing department add trim and pack the bird houses for shipment. Data for March follow.
