Sharon Noble is the secretary at Essex High School. She is a servant leader who is beloved at the school by students, alumni, and staff. Sharon knows the ins and outs of the school, and is the "go to" person for day-to-day needs. She is of great personal assistance to students, helping them understand changes at the school and even assisting with their college applications. She has delivered homework to students' homes, donated large sums of money to student causes, and been very helpful with course planning. Sharon dresses modestly but does not judge those who dress or act differently. She is kind-hearted, giving, and beloved by all.
This case study portrays a woman who is clearly a servant leader, despite the fact that she has little actual authority. It allows students to see servant leadership at work and helps them understand the benefits of that type of leader.
