Question:
Apply Procedure 10.6 on to obtain the required confidence interval. Interpret your result in each case.
Refer to Exercise 10.123
a. Determine a 95% confidence interval for the difference between the mean heights of cross-fertilized and self-fertilized Zea mays.
b. Repeat part (a) for a 99% confidence level.
Exercise 10.123
Charles Darwin, the author of Origin of Species, investigated the effect of cross-fertilization on the heights of plants. In ne study, he planted 15 pairs of Zea mays plants. Each pair consisted of one cross-fertilized plant and one self-fertilized plant grown in the same pot. The following table gives the height differences, in eighths of an inch, for the 15 pairs. Each difference is obtained by subtracting the height of the self-fertilized plant from that of the cross-fertilized plant.
Procedure 10.6
Purpose To find a confidence interval for the difference between two population means, μ1 and μ2
Assumptions
1. Simple random paired sample
2. Normal differences or large sample
Step by Step Answer:
