Question:
Rea the following and give response on it:
It is in my opinion that the religious differences found in this country be celebrated and not forced to be deemphasized. Many immigrant groups have come to America seeking refuge from brutal regimes that have persecuted many for their religious beliefs. To not allow the citizens of the country to practice their religion freely would create, in my opinion, this slippery slope towards the violation of their Constitutional rights as Americans. Relative to the ACDBN board, the one person that I am most close to is that of Enrique Guzman who states that faith was a big part of immigrants' identity and still is for many of them. Others, he adds, have found different way to express who they are. It is not necessarily a bad idea that immigrants grow into a different mind-set after they have been here for some time. As a matter of fact, this is not an uncommon occurrence with third and subsequent immigrant persons. My family have for some time believed in God and are Baptists but at this point in my life, I am not Baptists and have really been more of an agnostic.
In as much as there are some who would suggest that some religions need to be deemphasized, mainly the Muslim religion and for many reasons, I tend to think otherwise as there are Christians in this country who also commit crimes in the name of religion and no one is calling for this religion to deemphasize itself. We cannot have it both ways in this regard, favoring one over the other.
