In the Chinese culture the family, or Jia, is of the most important institutions within the culture. Although this is not unique to the culture, it is held in a higher regard of respect than many other cultures. According the Chinese culture your family is considered those who are part of your father’s lineage. Therefore, although you have grandparents on both sides, your membership is solely that associated with your fathers. The men are the most important members of a family and the elder the male the more highly held his position within the family is. Even when it comes to marriage, it is expected that the newlyweds live with the groom’s family. Everyone within the household is expected to contribute in some form to its maintenance, financially or within its upkeep.
Within the Hispanic culture family is a huge aspect. They not only take into consideration their household or immediate family, but a large part of their lifestyle is based around the concept of the extended family. This includes but is not limited to: Cousins, nieces and nephews, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and those who have married into the family or been around for an extended period of time. They have very strong bonds with their families and often spend a lot of time together, and make frequent visits to one another. They also place the needs of the family ahead of their own individual needs.
Similarly to the Hispanic culture, as society and times have changed the Greek culture has taken on the acceptance of a larger definition of family to include those members who have married in, as well as the blood members of the families that have married in. They have grown to reflect a more modern version of a family as society adjusts to a more diverse concept of what a family looks like or consists of to incorporate single parents, homosexual families, and those raised by other members. “The Greek society consists of close-knit families where important social organizations have gradually evolved from the idea of family. The institution of marriage also plays an important role in society. The word family in Greece refers to a particular social group whose members are related by blood or marriage at different levels or in different forms or combinations.”
