After the process of carbonizing as the first step to harden the case, a set of heat treatments is required to realize the case hardening. After treatment, the surface of the component should be harder whilst the core of the components should remain ductile. For a ball-shaped low carbon steel component, using muffle furnaces (Box furnaces) and other necessary equipment complete the following tasks: (i) Use a drawing to illustrate the case hardening schedule (T-t curve); (5 marks) (ii) Explain the role of each step in the case hardening process.
