An individual has presented to you with the follow symptoms, what is a likely diagnosis? A female client was referred to you due to a report of neglect of her children. Her 5 and 9 year old children have been coming to school late and at times in dirty clothes. The mom reports she has had difficulty falling asleep at night since her husband suddenly passed away last year. She started using Xanax prescribed by her doctor several months ago. The doctor believed her difficulty sleeping was a result of increased worry and anxiety with life changes resulting from being a single mom. Initially the medication was not enough therefore a few times she has taken more than prescribed. She also reported drinking alcohol a few times (1 glass of wine) because she noticed it helped her fall asleep faster. On occasion she has a difficult time waking up when her alarm goes off which has resulted in her taking her kids to school late. She stopped taking the medication once the school reported these concerns. She has reported feeling more anxious and having more difficulty falling asleep since she stopped taking the medication one week ago.
