PROJECT INTRODUCTION
Alteryx Data System
Alteryx is designing IT software in order to come up with the most effective tool to filter huge data into bit-sized critical elements and collaboration tools. Alteryx is a software solution that enables users to quickly access, manipulate, analyze, and output data.
This can be done in a one-off manner or, more commonly, the process is something people use on a recurring (daily, weekly, monthly) basis. The way Alteryx builds workflows becomes a form of process documentation allowing users to see, collaborate on, support, and enhance the process. Data can be read and written to files, databases, and APIs. This company also comes with functionality that allows predictive analytics and geospatial analysis.
Alteryx is designing IT software in order to enhance the process of data filtration.
Problem statement
Big data filtration is important to identify critical organizational elements, yet there is no suitable software or method to streamline such data. Alteryx is designing an IT software finding the most effective tool to filter big data into bit-sized critical elements and collaboration tools.
Data filtering can be defined as the process of choosing a smaller part of your dataset and using that subset for viewing or analysis.
Alteryx is trying to come up with the right software so that it can be used to extract meaningful solutions, such as hidden patterns, unknown correlations, market trends, and customer preferences. Big Data filtration software will allow the users to make informed decisions that can be used for better decision making, preventing fraudulent activities, among other things.
Data filtering is the process of choosing a smaller part of your data set and using that subset for viewing or analysis. Filtering is generally (but not always) temporary – the complete data set is kept, but only part of it is used for the calculation.
Mission statement of Alteryx.
- To empower everyone to make an impact and invest in each person's talent to achieve more together.
In this regard, the project they started for making software for the sales department that will help them understand the data and filter big data into sizable data makes use of the talents of the sales associates in the sales department where they can analyze big data. Still, this software will make everything easier for them, and they will be able to work at a faster rate than others.
Project mission
- The project mission of Alteryx is to design an IT software that is the most effective tool to filter big data into bit-sized critical elements and collaboration tools.
- permit users to access, alter, analyze, and produce data in a timely manner.
The company's project mission is to ensure that the sales department gets software that will enable them to work faster and analyze large amounts of data as quickly as possible. The software will also ensure there is precision in what they are doing.
Project Goals.
• Big data filtration software helps organizations harness their data and use it to identify new opportunities. That, in return leads to smarter business moves, more efficient operations, higher profits and happier customers.
• To enable users to understand data in terms of data volume, variety, and velocity, and make the right decision on which tool is best to ensure the acquisition and desired throughput.
• To be able to achieve desired results under one platform i.e., collect data and filter the same using the same system.
Project Objectives.
• To make decision making more understandable across all users.
• To make work easier.
• To increase the speed at which products get to market,
• To reduce the amount of time and resources required to gain market adoption, target audiences, and to ensure customers remain satisfied.
• Allows users to quickly access, manipulate, analyze, and output data.
Project Strategy
SWOT Analysis
Strengths
- Experienced workforce (IT experts)
- Diverse team of Data Analyst experts
- Can automate and handle analytical tasks faster than people
- Requires less tools/software and manual work
- Numerous partners varying from financial providers, investors including Tech companies.
- Strong company ethical values, provided support to the people of ukraine through MSF with financial means
Weaknesses
- All American companies, all headquarters in the USA. Should diversify offices and culture
- Alteryx is dependent on analytics, and may be subject to false accuracies with high numbers of analytics
- May unintentionally breach privacy due to high number and different forms of data and analytics
- Costs associated with getting data
Solution: Open headquarters in other countries, physical or virtual, and verify traffic sources for analytics. This would prevent a chunk of faulty data from passing.
Opportunities
- With the increase of e-commerce, firms require effective and efficent data analytics software
- Less cultural divide due to efficient automation of cultural analytics
- Better decision making, personalization, optimization
Solution/Pros: With less cultural divide, we can build stronger IT and Business connections and trust. This leads to better communication and optimal use of existing tried and tested software.
Threats
- Data analytics software may discourage new users due to learning curve and monetary barriers
- Phishing, DDosing, Database hacking
- Change in how we use and view analytics
- Flawed Data and faulty analytic automation software
- Data Breaches and Malmare, Virus'
Solution: Inform employees on these risks and teach them how to utilize privacy and protection softwares. Advocate them on the most popular phishing methods and teach them how to keep their data secure.

Internal and External Analysis
It is important to have a good understanding of internal and external factors that are affecting the project. Having a strong understanding of the importance of different factors surrounding the project leads to a better structured project. With the strong work force surrounding Alteryx they will bring good knowledge and experience to the project with the background in big data they will have a core understanding for the project. The purpose of creating a software that will help different departments gain access to the large amounts of data that the company has also means that they will need the data into sizable pieces that are easily understood by other departments. The sales department is within this group of people as they are a group who is the target for accessing the data. What is currently missing is a way for these departments to gain access to the data they need in a quick and efficient way without going through the other IT departments. The real challenge was that the other departments such as the IT department would have to take time to find the needed data for the other departments which could take a long time to find something simple that they need.
A related challenge was that at the current state of the system to gain access to the data specific queries would have to be made making it not possible for people without these skills to find what they are looking for. So with the hopes of making a new system where anyone could find what they are looking for would eliminate the need for only people with these skills being the only ones to be able to work with the data.
Externally it was similar, when a customer was looking for the information they needed they would have to go through several departments, but now with the new system making it possible for anyone at Alteryx to find what they need would eliminate the long time it would take to get access to customers information. The main challenge that was presented by Alteryx was related to external reporting. There was an overall lack of functionality with duplicates of data being gathered by different team members which led to a loss of time and unnecessary work.
Externally it is important to be able to manage the other companies flow of information and with the presence of poor software doing so is a challenge. This made it difficult to give accurate information and datasets to the customer as there was a lack of efficiency within the known system.
Another big part of the analysis that goes for both internal and external is the need for security, since the company houses sensitive data, they need to make sure there are access rights for the different roles. For example, the employee in the sales department doesn’t need access to every piece of data that the company has but where as the data technician should so they can ensure it is safe and accurate. The need for data security is very high within the company and making sure that the correct access is given to the right people. This also goes for the external customers as well. A customer should not approach a representative requesting information that is not needed to be given to them so there needs to be a way to keep track of the customers and what access and information they can be given.
Evaluating the internal and external roles along with the responsibilities of the different roles within Alteryx introduced more tools for analysis. Having this analysis along with risk and SWOT analysis allows for the formulation of a strong business case.
Potential Alternatives
- Custom built software by a third party;
- This would be the best of the three alternatives as it would allow for full customization but would likely cost a lot to have a third party build from scratch. Another downside to this approach would be that we would not have full access to the creation of the project from a day to day perspective as we would have to go through the third party for updates.
- Software that is already available and in use that could be purchased
- This would be something that would be difficult to find for the goal of this project as there are similar products on the market but they are aimed at the large scale level with little modality for smaller use cases as in the project. So this could be an option but the availability and features that would be necessary would be limited.
- Software that is already available with capability of customization;
- This would be similar to the software that is already available to be purchased but a better option. Since there are companies making software for the large scale there is a possibility to customize for the smaller case. Even though this would likely involve restructuring the whole system in a way that it would be a new product so a better option would seem to be to make a new product from scratch with full control of the design and functionality.
