Your task is to present an analysis of the production of a metal of your choice (eg, Al, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ag, Au) in a blast furnace so that the outside of the furnace is not too hot to the touch. You should simplify the analysis to analysing the plane conduction of heat through a wall, as was demonstrated in the classroom. A guideline of 55 degrees C can be used. Some things to consider: -The furnace wall needs to be made from an inner material that does not conduct heat very well (an insulator) You must have a minimum of three layers for the furnace wall. You could have more if you want. -The outside of the furnace wall must be Stainless Steel (there are different grades of stainless steel so you will have to decide on which type. -Your boss tells you that the required production of the metal that you will produce is 20 MT per month, 24 hour operation. -The furnace is to be rated at 4.5 kW -You must make an estimate of the profitability of the plant (eg. assume a certain number of employees). -Think of the fuel that you must use to fire the plant. This will be a cost as well. You will have to find an estimate for this. -You will need to make assumptions about aspects of the plant.
