Question:

Amorphous alloys have been found to have superior corrosion resistance. Corrosion Science (Sept. 1993) reported on the resistivity of an amorphous iron–boron–silicon alloy after crystallization. Five alloy specimens were annealed at 700°C, each for a different length of time. The passivation potential—a measure of resistivity of the crystallized alloy—was then measured for each specimen. The experimental data are shown below. Determine whether annealing time (x) is a useful linear predictor of passivation potential (y). If so, find the expected passivation potential, E(y), when annealing time is set at x = 30 minutes, using a 90% confidence interval.
