Perovskites are a promising new class of materials for thin-film PV. Perovskites include a wide range of compounds, such as CH₃NH₃PbI₃ , characterized by a crystal structure first observed in the mineral perovskite (CaTiO₃). Perovskite solar cells have reached ~20% efficiency under laboratory conditions. They are relatively easy to manufacture and are composed of Earth-abundant elements. Investigate the advantages and the technological challenges of this novel type of photovoltaic material.
