We often hear criticism of "activist judges," both from those who object to decisions they consider too liberal and from those who object to decisions they consider too conservative. Is it possible for the Supreme Court merely to "apply the law" to the facts of specific cases without interpreting general statutes or vague constitutional principles and without determining policy? Is this even desirable?
