Web Design: Your Selling Point

It was a discomfort of having to log into different computers to get the information needed that brought about the creation of the World Wide Web, or what most of us would now call

the Internet or the web. Public attention to this new innovation wasn’t also that fast till the late 90’s. As time goes by, more people took notice and the Internet exponentially evolved to what most of us use now in our desktop or even mobile devices. During its early years, the general focus was what, where and how can we use the World Wide Web. World Wide Web browsers was just sprouting one by one and not everyone has an easy access to it. Generally, during those days, people just want to know what they can get from it and not how it looks. In the years that follow, businesses began riding on this new technology wave. Each wanting to get their own Internet Protocol (IP) address for their organizations. Websites began to sprout here and there putting them on the Internet for everyone to see. By 1998, the birth of Google gave more attention to the Internet being the easiest and informative search engine to date. Yet back then, little to none has really put effort or notice to what will become a fundamental element on each website its layout.

MOBILE BOOM

Fast forward time into Apple’s iPad announcement on April of 2010. It’s a tablet, an iPod and an Internet explorer all in one. The mobile era of the Internet has begun. It was later obvious that if companies or organizations would want their website to look good on the iPad they need to focus their attention on its layout. It’s not enough anymore to have a running website up on the Internet. It has to also look really good! But Apple wasn’t the only one interested in making devices good for mobile internet browsing. Google caught up quickly and began making its mobile operating system Android gradually available to new mobile devices. The race was on! And so was it for companies whose websites must adapt to this new craze of mobile browsing.

BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

Before the iPad craze began, companies were usually satisfied having a running website. Put some pictures there, put some pictures here. Put some color there, put some color here. Only a few percent did care about its looks, its appeal, and its aesthetic feel! But as the mobile phenomenon rages on, with Apple and Google waging war on who will get more consumers to buy their product, companies are left with no choice but to adapt or gradually die in the eyes of its site visitors. Now, not only does your site need to look good, its needs to adapt; to be responsive to any viewports your website is on.
