It is well known in country music that new or emerging artists are often subjected to sexual harassment by radio studio program directors when pitching their songs for radio play. Female artists describe physical harassment, while male artists describe being forced to endure verbal innuendo and off-color stories about women they work or tour with, experiences that they would reject in other circumstances. Artists fear that overtly challenging such practices will negatively affect their play time on stations and their careers; so they endure or leave the industry. Ignoring the illegality of the practices for the moment, what data correlations might the Country Music Association (CMA) present to bring about a change in such practices?
