In its February 2, 1998, issue, Fortune magazine published the results of a Yankelovich Partners survey of 600 adults that investigated their ideas about marriage and divorce. (All respondents had incomes of $50,000 or more.). For each statement below, the proportions of men and women who agreed with the statement are given.

Assuming that the survey results were obtained from independent random samples of 300 men and 300 women:
a. For each statement, carry out a hypothesis test that tests the equality of the population proportions of men and women who agree with the statement. Use equal to .10, .05, .01, and .001. How much evidence is there that the population proportions of men and women who agree with each statement differ?
b. For each statement, calculate a 95 percent confidence interval for the difference between the population proportion of men who agree with the statement and the population proportion of women who agree with the statement. Use the interval to help assess whether you feel that the difference between population proportions has practical importance.
