Corcoran was the system operator of a bulletin board Service (BBS) called “The Front Line” and was known as “Dirty Scum.” Corcoran knew the BBS contained a directory with the file names of approximately 20 Sega Genesis game programs including Jurassic Park and Sonic Spinball. These files were available for download by her BBS users. Sega claimed that Corcoran is liable for contributory copyright infringement because Corcoran knew that her BBS users were making copies of Sega games and Corcoran encouraged them to do so. Corcoran argued that uploading and downloading of Sega files was fair use. Is Sega entitled to prevent this use by Corcoran?
