Chemical engineers need to find data (either from published papers or through modeling techniques) for the systems they are to analyze. Sometimes it is a challenge to extract the information needed from a published journal paper. To that end, consider the following article from the Journal of Chemical and Engineering Data (W. Fan et al., J. Chem. Eng. Data, 53, 1836 (2008)) on the excess molar volume of the methanol - methyl methacrylate system at a variety of temperatures. The paper provides a variety of correlations for the excess molar volume at different compositions and temperatures. Using Equations 3 and 4 in that journal article, estimate the molar volume of the methanol + methyl methacrylate system at 295.45 K and 42% (by mole) methanol.
