In 1976, Edward T. Hall developed the iceberg analogy of culture. Hall posits that the only way to understand an internal culture, which is below the tip of the iceberg, is to actively participate in that culture. Form groups of four and prepare an iceberg presentation of a familiar culture. What are the most overt behaviors? What are the underlying beliefs, values, and thought patterns that dictate implicit behaviors? Do your fellow group members and members of the other groups agree?
