To maintain credibility with stakeholders, it is important to always convey the truth about project cost and identify the precision of estimate values. Transparency in estimate communication is sometimes difficult because external stakeholders often want ‘‘one number’’ before an accurate estimate can be made by even the best estimators and engineers; however, transparency of costs will be best over the duration of a project. Management of project cost through proper communication has implications for the other global strategies of scope/schedule, risk, delivery, estimate quality, and, particularly, the integrity strategy.
