Are user contribution systems a good way of providing the public with the opportunity to participate and share their expertise with companies whose products and services they use? Or have companies cynically managed to persuade gullible, emotionally challenged online users to contribute their time, creativity, and effort for free, in return for a spurious sense of participation in some sort of ‘community’ or a sense of ‘ownership’ of something?
