1. Fast food advertisement: the sole purpose is to attract the human “want” emotion. This is why even apple, Google, fast food chains, television shows and all other advertisements that you see in news papers and on the TV is because they want you to want their products to make a sell. Company’s pay millions of dollars just so one advertisement can play during the super bowl, why? That is so you see it and want it. A new brand of shoes, my personal favorite is the Clydesdales in the Budweiser commercial. This commercial does not attract me to start purchasing their products; I am just a horse person. Does McDonald have the right to advertise; yes I believe that they have every right. That is the way that they get customers and sell a product. They have given so much more of an option for your child to eat apples and juice or milk over fries and a soft drink. This is a large effort on their part. the government should make sure that all fast food chains are listing ingredients (some people might be allergic to (soy, wheat, milk, eggs, peanuts) and the calorie intake of each item. This is so that parents and young adults can make cognitive decisions to get the extra large fries and soft drink or get the apples and juice. parent’s role: we have the control to teach portion control and moderation. McDonalds, burger king, taco bell and all other food chains are not going to tell your child no, that is the parents job. I do not believe that they should ban advertisements to children. If I bought my daughter ever thing that she wanted on an infomercial I would be broke. This again falls on the parents to teach their children moderation and control. We teach children that the want is not always the best; we teach them of the basic needs in life; food, water, clothing, shelter. This can only be a cognitive motion when they are lead by example.
2. I believe that McDonald’s has the right to advertise as much as it likes, just as every other business in our country does. McDonald’s, as well as many other fast food restaurants, do not hide or misrepresent the calories inside the menu options they offer. In fact, McDonald’s has the calories listed on the menu right next to the price. The burden of educating children falls on the parents. Parents have the responsibility to set boundaries and habits for their children that foster and create an environment that encourages healthy eating and active lifestyles. Also, the government (in the form of education) should help educate students about healthy eating habits, most likely in their health classes, so that students have accurate information about calorie intake and exercise suggestions. i absolutely disagree that government should ban advertising toward children, or in any form. All advertisers have the right to advertise as they see fit, and a parent has the obligation to police and filter the information that their children receive and help their children to understand it.
