Case Study 2a - Who will I be as a leader? In four weeks, Little Catalysts ELC will have a site visit from a consultant to confer with selected staff. Carol, the Director, wants to see if the service can achieve an excellent rating by focusing on Quality Area 4 (QA4) and Quality Area 7 (QA7) of the National Quality Standards. In view of this, as you're already aware, she has appointed you to lead a team through self-assessment, Quality Improvement Plan review and innovation development for QA7. Carol has said, in a mentoring session, that she would like you to start working with a team, one that could lead innovation projects for the next 2 - 3 years in the service. In preparation for stepping up into new role responsibilities as a team leader in the service, Carol wants you to reflect on who you aspire to be as a leader, i.e., what behaviours you will commit to modelling, practices that reflect the service philosophy and how you plan to promote team collaboration through behaviour and interaction with others. Benchmark Criteria Demonstrated knowledge of impacts of group dynamics on team performance, i.e., the impact of modelling desired behaviour and practices and promoting work team collaboration through individual behaviour. Resources eLearn - Managing effectiveness of a work team. Little Catalysts ELC Staff Handbook, pp.1-9. Kearns.K., (2020, 5th Ed) The Business of Child Care, pp.347-348. Reflect on behaviours and practices you would like to role model as a leader at Little Catalysts ELC, to promote team collaboration, collegiality and support a high-functioning work team. (300-word limit) In your response: Summarise how you intend to demonstrate behaviours and practices in your role as a team leader and explain how these would positively impact group dynamics and team performance. Explain how your aspirations relate to the services' philosophy, mission, values and objectives (see Staff Handbook). Give two (2) examples of what can impact group dynamics negatively when leadership is not conducted effectively.
