Focuses on the internal environmental analysis and competitive advantage. What resources, technology, skill set of your staff, etc. does your organization have that give it a competitive edge, which is important in an ever increasing competitive marketplace. To provoke thinking in the value chain for service delivery, the area that is most visible to patients, I like to assign the following exercise. It has always provoked thoughtful discussion and a respectful exchange of ideas. The value chain in service delivery is viewed from an organizational perspective. But as both a clinician and administrator, I have always considered what it means for our patients when developing our processes.
Your task to is to: Map out a doctor's visit (service of your choice) and the steps the patient must take from making an appointment to close of the visit. Once you have mapped out the steps, I would like you to indicate what steps are value added for the patient, in your opinion. Once you have indicated the value added steps, ask your self why is it value added for the patient and include it in your assignment.
