FINAL RESEARCH PROJECT "The World of... (John Updike)" Eng208 E3 (Ritchie) The Contemporary American Short Story Spring B Semester 1, 2023 Please write a comprehensive research paper about one author of a literary work we've read in (or out of) class. Authors who come to mind include Jackson, Updike, Jin, Sophocles, Hughes, Frost, Tan, Millay. The title of your paper should be "The World of..." so you can provide not just information about the author, but what the world was like when the author was alive and writing. Provide brief biographical information (date, birthplace, etc.) not in the beginning (it sounds too much like a book report); identify who the writer's contemporaries were (authors and non-authors) and the writers who may have influenced him/her most. Also, describe the historical period in which the author wrote (i.e. Cold War) and if this had any impact on their writing; describe their major works. Describe, too, their private life and if this influenced their writing. (For example, Millay in Savage Beauty, a biography about her that I recommend, was described as a promiscuous alcoholic). Required: MLA Works Cited page and in-text citations and at least 3 Sources cited: One biography, and at least two academic journal articles. Five to seven pages plus Works Cited page in 11 or 12 point Arial or Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing. Today we will decide which authors to write about by reviewing their biographical descriptions in the text or in the Encyclopedia Britannica. Key Dates: Research Paper due no later than July 5. Your first draft is due June 14. FINAL RESEARCH PROJECT "The World of...
