Question:
Flippers swimming club is owned and run by May Lee. May was a champion swimmer when she was young so when she retired from competitive swimming she decided to start her own business teaching children to swim. May is a qualified swimming instructor, and uses the standards of a recognized swimming association to assess the swimming ability of her students and assign awards. The awards are graded as red, blue, bronze, silver and gold, gold being the top award. When a child passes an award test he/she is given a badge to stich on his/her swimming costume and can progress to the next level class. May keeps a record of all students and the awards they have achieved. Once a year May agrees contracts with schools and local communities to hire their swimming pools on certain dates and times. Once these contracts have been settled May decides where and when various swimming classes will take place. She then produces an empty class list for each swimming class identifying where and when it will take place each week, and the award that the students will be aiming for in that class. Based on the contracts May will also decide how much each lesson will cost her students, and notes that on the class list. Current students are given the opportunity to reregister each year before new students are accepted. This is because there is a maximum number of students permitted in each class. A current student who has passed an award is offered a place in a class at the next level, otherwise students may continue at the same level. Students who wish to continue with the lessons are provisionally allocated (added) to the appropriate class, and this is confirmed when they have paid the fees for the year. Both the provisional and confirmed allocation of a student to a class is recorded on the class list. If there are spaces for a class new students are accepted provided they are at the correct award level for the class. On receipt of the payment, May adds the new student to the class list. Fees must be paid in advance for the year, and May has to keep a record of all payments for tax and accounting purposes. She does this by sending out receipts and keeping copies for her own file.
(a) Draw a use case diagram identifying the 'Actors' and 'Use Cases' required for the Flippers (asis) online system.
(b) Using the above material develop a normal case user scenario for the business use case: "Allocate student to a class". This scenario should assume that the class has room for an additional student and therefore the allocation (addition) can be made.
