In 2008, there was a study conducted by Boelen and Reijntjes in 2008. The researcher's hypothesis was there would be negative cognitions and emotional problems after a breakup such as complicated grief, depression, and anxiety. To support their hypothesis, 79 undergraduate students who has experienced a breakup was given a questionnaire. The conclusion which supported their hypothesis was that there are negative cognitive effects based on grief,
depression, and anxiety after a breakup.
Lastly a study predicted that romantic relationships will negatively affect academics.
( Bernales et al., 2011) To support their hypothesis, students from the university of Philippines- Cebu college were given a questionnaire based on academics, relationships, anxiety, and motivation. The conclusion is that students spend more time in their relationships that they have less time to study which will lower their academic performance. This article is relevant to my study due to their findings are supportive of my hypothesis and it shows that it is the same view of my study.
A great amount of research studies has been performed regarding academic and romantic relationships. These research studies have shown that romantic relationships can influence academic performance and GPA. Some studies have shown that these relationships have influence on academic performance and GPA, and some of the other studies have shown how romantic relationship affect grief, depression, as well as stress levels. The current study hypothesizes that romantic relationships do have an effect on academic performance and GPA.
