In my opinion the government monitoring of citizen's phone and email communications is both a good and bad thing. I think that there is a lot of information that is being stored that is private and not even useful that should not be needed unless there is a purpose to pull those records. This main issue I see is, "The standard for conducting backdoor searches is so low that, without any showing of suspicion, an FBI agent can type in an American's name, email address, or phone number, and pull up whatever communications the FBI's Section 702 collection has vacuumed into its databases over the past five years." I think this is taking it too far especially for the Americans that are not breaking the law and not doing anything to bring this type of surveillance to a necessity but for some reason are being monitored anyway. On the other hand the authorities having this information seems like it could be extremely useful when dealing with a case of the law. The main reason the government is monitoring these communications is to monitor the foreign relations coming to and from the country to keep Americans safe which again is a good thing for Americans. Even though there are pros and cons to this surveillance there should be some lines drawn on further invasions of privacy.
