These question pertain to the early economic history of the United States, from the 1800s:
1)Do you think that the trade policy of the early United States was optimal, or were there other changes you would have made instead? Why or why not?
2) Let’s say you meet someone who says that the United States would have been better off with a central bank throughout its whole history but also with a system based on free banking with private banknotes backed by Federal Treasury debt or specie for all of U.S. history through the present. Would you agree or disagree that this policy package would be better than what actually happened? Why or why not?
3) What would have happened economically to the 13 colonies had the Revolutionary War never happened and the 13 colonies remained British? Would that have been a better or a worse outcome economically?
The answer will revolve around the benefits and costs of colonial administration versus local American administration as well as the benefits of economic integration with a larger polity. You can think about Canada in your answer, though there is one major institution that was very different in the U.S. South that made Canada different.
