Question:
You have just started working at the local rugby league club in the memberships section. In addition to keeping membership records and handling membership inquiries, you have also been asked to be the administration representative on the sustainability action group.
As part of your training for this role, you are shown the location of all the documentation that relates to the action group. It is all in a directory on the server that can be accessed by all representatives throughout the business. The group has just implemented a trial recycling scheme in the sales department, which if successful will be implemented in other parts of the workplace. You study the action plan and schedule, which is reviewed at each action group meeting.
In an effort to understand the background to the program, you take the time to review the document that has been submitted to the management team for approval of the trial recycling scheme.
As part of the business plan and budget allocation, the action group must present a proposal for the environmental initiatives that they plan to launch next year. Part of this will be completing the implementation of the recycling scheme in other areas of the workplace, and there are other initiatives that have been pencilled in.
In preparation for the proposal, you decide to research some sustainability programs online and conduct a walk-through of the organisation’s buildings to look for ideas. You notice that there are often areas like gyms and training rooms that are empty during the day yet that still have lights and heating left on. As a result of this, you decide to suggest some simple energy-saving ideas for each department to implement as well.
1. What should you do to identify opportunities for the next initiative?
2. What are some simple energy-saving ideas that you might suggest the action group implements? (List five ideas)
