How to make New Year’s Eve 2018 Most Memorable?

It’s the most special night of the year, and you can ring in 2018 with these fun ideas.

December 31 is a night to celebrate all your accomplishments in 2017 and look forward to starting the new year fresh. Celebrating New Year’s Eve is a tradition that dates back centuries, and each year, it seems to that there are more fun things to do than ever. Here are some ideas on how to make December 31, 2017, your most memorable yet.

Holiday gift exchange

If Christmas was just too hectic, you might suggest a “white elephant” gift exchange for New Year’s Eve instead. Set a price limit and have everyone bring a wrapped gift. Then, everyone draws numbers to pick a gift. If you like someone else’s gift better than yours, you can steal theirs in the game.

2018 Celebration

Propose her at midnight

If you’ve been with your special someone long enough, you might decide it’s time to pop the question. What’s more romantic than getting engaged at midnight to start the new year in a new phase of your relationship. Instead of going in for that New Year’s kiss, get down on one knee instead.

Prepare a doorstep trap

Who says you have to wait until midnight to throw confetti? Set a confetti trap at your home’s entrance as people open the door. As each person walks in refill the container and makes sure every person who walks through the door is showered with colorful fun.

2018 Home Fun

Hide your friend’s car

Play “hide and seek” but with a friend’s car. Divide up into teams and try and find the car, parked somewhere within a 5-mile radius. The first team to find the car wins a prize!

Set the clocks back one hour

When everyone comes over, set the clocks back one hour so you’re actually celebrating New Year’s Eve at 1 a.m. See how long it takes for someone to notice.

Organize an ice-slide challenge

Live where it’s cold? Grab a couple of trash can lids or sleds and have a competition to see how far each person in your group can slide on the ice. Make sure you’re in a safe area with no traffic or obstructions. Get a cool prize for the person who can slide the furthest.

Light your own fireworks at the lake or beach

If you have a beach or a lake close by and you know you’re allowed to set off fireworks there, have each one of your friends bring some and set them off. This is especially fun if you don’t live near a city with a big fireworks display. Check your local laws regarding fireworks, since they’re illegal in some areas.

Have a bonfire with friends

Head to a large open space and build a fire from gathered wood. Bring ingredients for s’mores — marshmallows, chocolate bars, graham crackers — and let the conversation flow. Talk about what you did last year and the things you’d like to accomplish in 2018. Make sure to have a fire extinguisher handy.

Go to an amusement park

If you’re close to an amusement park or fair, make a night of it and spend the evening riding rollercoasters, playing arcade games and taking pictures together. See who can win the biggest toy at the arcade and challenge each other not to scream on the scariest rides.

Host a board game night

For a quiet night in, invite friends and family over for a board game tournament. Provide snacks and drinks and keep the TV close so you know when to toast at midnight. Whoever wins the most games during the course of the night wins a prize!

Dress up and go to a party

Get dressed to the nines like James Bond and Bond girls and go to a fancy party. There aren’t many other nights of the year when wearing a tux or evening gown is acceptable, so go all out. Have your hair and nails done and even treat yourself to a message. You earned it this year!

Rent a snow machine and play

Snow machines create lots of “snow” out of an ice block. If it’s cold enough (but not snowing), take the snow machine outside and let the snow fall. Make snow angels, have a snowball fight, and pretend you’re having a white Christmas.

Play “Two Resolutions, One Lie”

Sit around a circle and have your friends or family tell everyone their real New Year’s resolution along with one lie that is not their real New Year’s resolutions. Have everyone guess which one is the real resolution and which one is a lie.

Set up a photo booth

Get a tripod and remote for your cell phone (or a selfie stick!) and create a fun background on a wall in your home. Buy or make some props for people to use in their photos and have them hashtag the photos on Instagram with a hashtag you make up for your New Year’s party.

Order pizza and watch the ball drop in Times Square

If none of these ideas sounds fun to you, go to the old standard. Order pizza from your favorite pizzeria (everyone loves pizza, so you won’t be leaving anyone out) or take-out Chinese food and sit around the TV while you watch the glittery ball drop in Times Square.

Happy New Year!
