Organizations that sponsor various leisure activities need to know the number of people who wish to participate. Bureaucrats need to know the number because many organizations apply for government grants to pay the costs. The U.S. National Endowment for the Arts conducts surveys of American adults to acquire this type of information. One part of the survey asked a random sample of adults whether they participated in exercise programs. The responses (1 = yes and 2 = no) were recorded. A recent census reveals that there are 205.9 million adults in the United States. Estimate with 95% confidence the number of American adults who participate in exercise programs.
