A classmate told you about what happened to him and asked for your advice. He was walking out of class one day, and he found a memory card from a camera. Later that day the campus is covered with notices which say "$100 REWARD. A memory card containing pictures of a family vacation has been lost. If found, please return to Professor Canon in Room A123". Unfortunately your classmate had to get to an appointment so he didn't have time to get to Professor Canon's office. You tell him he should write the professor a note stating your classmate's name, where and when he found the memory card, and telling the professor that he will deliver it the following day. He follows your advice. What is your classmate entitled to receive? Your classmate has no legal right to the $100. Your classmate has a legal right to the $100 since he can prove he put the note in the mail to Prof. Wavery. Your classmate has a legal right to the $100 provided he can prove he found it after Prof. Wavery posted the reward notices. Since this was an offer to the public at large, your classmate has accepted the offer by mailing the letter. Prof. Wavery legally must give him $100. While your classmate has no legal right to the reward, the court will enforce his moral right to it A classmate told you about what happened to him and asked for your advice.
