Discussion Questions: 1. Describe a recent interpersonal communication conversation/ exchange you had recently or in the past that was not very effective. Analyze the conversation. Did the other person understand you or was there a misunderstanding? Did your communication have the intended effect? Meaning was the message you were trying to get across correctly interpreted by the other person? 2. Think about an experience you had in which interpersonal communication was not a satisfying experience between either you and a family member, friend, colleague, or significant other. How did the relationship suffer? What could you and the other person have done differently to improve the situation? 3. Does electronically mediated communication make us more or less other-oriented than face-to-face communication. How so? Think of the different types of electronic mediated communication you use in your daily life. How does each of these affect your social presence both in the virtual and face-to-face world?
