Question:
You are an HRM consultant. The CEO of a large Engineering company has asked you to provide recommendations on a recruitment strategy to fill several vacancies. The company intends to undertake a major new project which will last approximately two years and will necessitate a temporary increase in staffing for the duration of the project. The project must start in exactly three months. The employer has identified the following HR positions to carry out the project:
1 Project Manager - to oversee the entire project
1 Architect - to provide extensive design work over the first six months of the project and then to provide periodic consultation as the project proceeds
5 Engineers - Two of whom must be Senior Engineers with experience in the latest design technology and three Junior Engineers to handle routine computations for the Senior Engineers
3 Administrative Support Staff - One to serve as Office Manager and two secretaries to transcribe the engineering notebooks.
There are no guarantees that additional staff will be needed on a permanent basis after the project ends. The company does not currently have an Architect on Staff. Also, the CEO has indicated that they have had very low turnover in the company. As such, job descriptions have not been updated in at least five years.
Please outline your recommendations for a recruitment strategy. As part of your response make sure you:
1) Review feasible recruitment options and methods for each of the required new positions;
2) Identify strengths and potential drawbacks/concerns relating to these options;
3) Provide your specific recommendations, taking into account the strengths/potential drawbacks, as well as the constraints which have been provided; and
4) Identify any additional information or groundwork that is required in order for you to prepare, and for the company to execute, the recruitment plan.
