Whitewater West Industries was founded by Geoff Chutter in early 1980s. An accountant working in Cancouver, Geoff got interested in waterslides in 1980 while visiting his uncle in Kelowna who had done consulting on a waterslide in a local park. Geoff quit his job, bought 18 acres of land in Penticton, 60 km south of Kelowna, and built his own water park. More interested in creative aspects of design, he sold his water park in 1980 and bought half-ownership of a Kelowna fiberglass factory. Slides are made by manually spraying melted fiberglass and resin on moulds.
