Qualitative data is about words, descriptions, and experiences that answer "why" or "how," offering subjective insights through interviews, observations, and open-ended questions. Quantitative data records quantities like numbers, counts, measurements, and statistics that answer "how many" or "how much," supporting hypothesis testing and pattern identification through surveys and number analysis (McLeod, 2023). I will use qualitative data with my action project with the Early Childhood team and parents to understand experiences, customer feedback, observational notes, and information to reveal positives and negatives along with parent perspectives that inform program design and family engagement. Quantitative data will complement this work when needed to measure enrollment for class sizes, calculate tuition costs and increases, examine staffing ratios and salary of staff, and provide numerical evidence for budgets and logistical decisions. Using both approaches shares a comprehensive picture for my project being qualitative findings show the reasons behind behaviors and preferences of staff and parents, while quantitative metrics show resource and money needs. Together they support the creation of a functional early childhood department that meets developmental and family needs while remaining financially sustainable within a tuition-based school building, enabling data-informed decisions about programming, staffing, facilities, and policy that balance educational quality.
