In Exercise 1 Diode and Lasing threshold, ou will examine the structure of a laser diode and measure the output power of the emitted light as a function of the driving current. n open laser diode is provided for your examination. Two metal wires (electrodes) are attached to a piece of semiconductor. One electrode is for injection of electrons and the other is for the electrons to flow out. Connect a 9V DC transformer as power supply to the circuit. Connect a multimeter to the circuit to measure the voltage drop across the diode (V) and another multimeter to measure the current through the diode (I). Turn on the 9V DC transformer and set the current at ~ 5 mA by rotating the current adjust knob. Observe the light output of the diode with a viewing screen. Can you see any light coming out from the diode? Gradually increase the driving current from 5 mA to ~20 mA. Examine whether the shape and the size of the output beam change with the current
