An SPC chart is to be designed for a key process variable, a chemical composition, which is also a controlled variable. Because the measurements axe very noisy, they must be filtered before being sent to a PI controller. The question arises whether the variable plotted on the SPC chart should be the filtered value or the raw measurement. Are both alternatives viable? If so, which one do you recommend?
