How should Max respond to Mary’s request that he help her provide the insurance company the information it needs?
Max Warren, a fraud investigator, was in the middle of a case for a small family-owned clothing store. He had some fairly strong preliminary evidence pointing to an embezzlement fraud and powerful indicators that pointed to the bookkeeper’s guilt.
Mary Hilson, the client company’s CEO, was attempting to collect insurance for the fraud loss, but the insurance company would not pay for the loss without Max providing a letter that certifies a loss. The insurance company also wanted to question him under oath.
To complicate the matter, Mary told Max that without an immediate settlement from the insurance company, the business did not have sufficient funds for operations to continue and the business would be bankrupt. Max wondered whether he would be paid for the work he had done to date.
