Jonathan Stallman was recently hired as the new director of accounting at SouthSide Charlies Grill. Jonathan’s first responsibility was to examine the internal control procedures and implement stronger controls where he noted weaknesses. Jonathan found two weaknesses and implemented new controls in the following areas:
1. Cassandra was extremely dedicated to her bookkeeping job and the company, so much so, that she never took vacations.
2. Adam had been employed at SouthSide Charlies Grill for more than 30 years and was the sole employee responsible for reconciling the bank account on a monthly basis.
Instructions
1. Indicate the two weaknesses Jonathan identified.
2. Explain the controls Jonathan could put in place to protect against these weaknesses.
3. Discuss why these steps may not fully correct the weaknesses in the internal control procedures.
