Natural Resources Canada reports regularly on seismic events (earthquakes) in Canada. In just the three days-January 15 to 17, 2001-there were 24 such events. Earthquake magnitudes are recorded in a variety of scales, of which Canada primarily uses ML (Magnitude Local = Richter Scale) and MN (Magnitude Nuttli). For that January sequence of 24 seismic events, the sequence in which the two reporting scales (L for ML, N for MN) were used is shown below. Test the claim that the order in which the two scales appear is random.

Use the runs test of this section to determine whether the given sequence is random. Use a significance level of α = 0.05. (All data are listed in order by row.)
