One of the problems facing college bookstores is managing the inventory of textbooks. If a bookstore orders too many textbooks, it incurs costs in repacking and shipping the books back to the textbook publisher. On the other hand, if the bookstore has too little inventory, the store may lose sales (if students go elsewhere to buy their books) or the store may incur costs related to expediting shipments from the publisher.
