Question:

Refer to Exercise 41 for a description of reaction and braking distances. Let R be the reaction distance and let B be the braking distance, both in feet, when driving at s miles per hour.
a. Find the stopping distances (in feet) for the driving speeds 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80, all in miles per hour.
b. Let D be the stopping distance (in feet) when driving at s miles per hour. Construct a scatterplot for the association between s and D.
c. Find the linear regression equation for the association between s and D.
d. The linear regression equation for the association between s and R is Rn = 2.2s. The linear regression equation for the association between s and B is Bn = 6.32s - 132.75. Add the expressions 2.2s and 6.32s - 132.75 and compare the result to the right-hand side of the regression equation you found in part (c). Why did this happen?
