Suppose Amazon.com’s year-end bank statement for the operating bank account, dated December 31, 2008 has just arrived at company headquarters. Further assume the bank statement shows Amazon.com's cash balance at $324 million and that Amazon.com, Inc.’s operating bank account has a balance of $316 million on the books (since this is only one of many bank accounts, it will not be possible to match it to the $2,769 that is shown.)
