Software programs using artificial intelligence are now writing many stories. These so called robots have replaced humans as the authors of routine reports in sports, finance, and other areas. During the first seven days of September 2012, the football pages on the Big Ten network site contained 66 blogs of which 36 were written by robots.
(a) Find a 90% confidence interval for the population proportion written by robots.
(b) Does .5 appear to be a plausible value for the proportion given the 90% confidence interval.
(c) The data are likely representative of a week's activity during the football season. However, one day was a Saturday and Big Ten teams were involved in many games. The first task given to robot reporters was to convert box score data into stories and they keep up with this real time task by updating every quarter. On Saturdays, there is actually a group of stories that go through the robot reporters. Comment on the Bernoulli assumptions of independence and constant probability of success.
