Using Schein's definition of organizational culture from the section that explains approaches to analyzing workplace cultures, divide the class into six teams and assign one part of the definition to each team.

Then have each team analyze how you as students have been socialized into your campus culture with respect to your part of the definition. When teams report to the whole group, see if you can add to or challenge the claims of other groups.

Schein's definition:

The definitions is this one, of culture: "Culture can now be defined as

(a) a pattern of basic assumptions,

(b) invented, discovered, or developed by a given group,

(c) as it learns to cope with its problems of external adaptation and internal integration,

(d) that has worked well enough to be considered valid and, therefore

(e) is to be taught to new members as the

(f) correct way to perceive, think and feel in relation to those problems"
