First, print out the VALS types along with their descriptions. Hand them to the students and have them select the type they think they are. After noting their choices, have them visit http://www.strategicbusinessinsights.com/vals/presurvey.shtml and take the survey to determine who they really are. Is the self-selection different from the results of the survey? If yes, why do they feel they are different from what the survey states? Can the differences be reconciled?
