Find a news source close at hand – it could be a physical newspaper or magazine, it could be an online news source, it could be a broadcaster (except this won’t work if it’s radio). Starting at the top, keep skimming through until you find a graph; on most days of the year, it shouldn’t take more than a minute or two until you find one.

Having done so, answer the following questions:

1. What kind of graph is it you’re looking at?

2. What are the variables that are involved?

3. Does it include any of the techniques in Section 5.4 to potentially mislead its audience?

4. How do you feel about it in general?

5. Could it be drawn differently? If so, how? Is your proposed alternative better, worse or just different?
