15.23 Sample space. A randomly chosen subject arrives for a study of exercise and fitness. Describe a sample space for each of the following. (In some cases, you may have some freedom in your choice of S.)

(a) The subject is either female or male.

(b) After 10 minutes on an exercise bicycle, you ask the sub ject to rate his or her effort on the Rate of Perceived Exertion

(RPE) scale. RPE ranges in whole-number steps from 6 (no ex ertion at all) to 20 (maximal exertion).

(c) You measure V02, the maximum volume of oxygen con sumed per minute during exercise. V02 is generally between 2.5 and 6.1 liters per minute.

(d) You measure the maximum heart rate (beats per minute).
