In 1868, a German physician, Carl Wunderlich, reported his analysis of over 1 million temperature readings from 25,000 patients [7]. He concluded that 98.6° Fahrenheit,

(which is 37.0° Celsius) is the average temperature of healthy adults. Wunderlich used the armpit for measuring body temperatures and the thermometers he used required 15 to 20 minutes to give a stable reading. In 1992, three researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine reported the results of 700 readings of 148 healthy persons using modern thermometers [8]. A random sample of their data follows. Use these data to calculate a 95 percent confidence interval for the population mean.
